Arundhati Roy is the author of the novel The God of Small Things, for which she was awarded the Booker Prize in 1997, and four collections of essays: The Algebra of Infinite Justice, An Ordinary Person’s Guide to Empire, Listening to Grasshoppers and her most recent book Broken Republic, which examines the cause of India’s Maoist guerilla movement in the context of the nation’s emergence as a superpower. The Shape of the Beast is a collection of interviews with the author. She lives in New Delhi, India.
